my 'two cents'
I've never been too fond of Christmas music. Yeah, call me a "Scrooge"
or whatever they call people who dislike Christmas. I don't dislike
Christmas, just every year you hear the same Christmas songs day in
and day out.. on the radio, in the stores, in the mall, et cetera, et
cetera that by the time you get home the last thing you want to listen
to is Christmas music. Let me guarente you that Merry Christmas is
not the usual Christmas album. The Supertones rendition of Joy to
the World starts off this 18 track compilation with some crazy
ska. Ronnie Martin and friends bring us his usual retro-electronica
style Winter Wonderland quite well. The album slows down
for O Come Emmanuel but let me assure you that the Chasing
Furies' lovely female vocals will envelope you. Starflyer 59 brings
us another eclectic wonder in A Holiday Song -- does this
remind anyone else of the Doors? Five Iron Frenzy's track will bring
a grin to your face as they bring us Christmas from the child's
point of view that we all remember. Next is Sarah Masen. I dislike
her music, sorry. If you're a Sarah Masen fan you may dig it though,
I guess. The following track is.. PLANKEYE! They bring us Away
In a Manger dressed up in good ol' power pop. Eric and Luis
on vocals for the first recorded time. Almonzo was resurected from the
dead to recreate the classic hymn. Pep Squad and Bon Voyage bring
us Feliz Navidad and Holly Jolly Christmas respecivly
in a pretty traditional fashion. Seven Day Jesus sings Oh Holy
Night in traditional fashion also, but don't let that fool
you.. Brian's voice is just simply increadible!!!
The last highlight of the CD is the Huntingon's original song
It's Always Christmas at My House. They sound more like the Ramones
then ever, and it's just fun fun fun. :)
